A game about evolution not only from the monsters perspective, but actually more the evolution of the player himself, learn from previous encounters and become more than human, Evolve requires the best of you and you should become the best you.

From Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead, comes Evolve, the next generation of multiplayer shooters where four Hunters face off against a single, player-controlled Monster in adrenaline-pumping 4v1 matches. Play as the monster to use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill you human enemies, or choose one of four Hunter classes (Assault, Trapper, Medic and Support) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to man and monster alike. Level up to unlock new Hunter or Monster characters as well as upgrades, skins and perks. Earn your infamy on the leaderboards and become the apex predator.

As mentioned above you can play as one of 4 classes, within each class you can choose 1 of 3 hunters, each one of these hunters has his or her own personality and load out. While every class has their own personal ability, each character within this class has some of their own. Choose wisely and adept to the choosing of your teammates.

Do you like to deal damage and feel overpowered? The Assault class which is intended to deal huge amount of damage to the monster is the class for you. The Assault class consists of Markov, Hyde and Parnell who all can wield the personal shield to stay alive and come with the needed weaponry.

Rather keep your distance and heal your teammates? Medic class is your way to go. The medic class makes use of sniper rifles and their healing burst ability to keep themselves and their teammates alive. The medic class features Val, Lazarus and Caira.

Dealing damage and being nice to your fellow teammates is your thing? Go with the Support class, it has everything you need from high damaging weaponry to cloaking fields. Every character in this class can use the cloaking field ability which causes them and their allies to turn invisible. The Support class features Hank, Bucket and Cabot.

I can feel it you’re one with nature and can track beasts, am I right? The Trapper class should be your class. Within the trapper class you’ll have the ability to create a mobile arena which creates a field which traps the monster and forces it to stand its ground. Within this class you have Maggie, Griffin and Abe to get your hands on.

These where the Hunters and while they’re in the same class they all play different, me I’m more of a Medic type of guy and within the Medic class I preferred Caira, the only downside to this, she is the last one to unlock and takes some time. I like to give support to my teammates in the form of healing I do this in almost all multiplayer games and Evolve is no exception. What I hate most about the medic class is the sniper rifles, I never like to camp and snipe I just want to shoot and stay close to the action while healing my teammates. Here is where the beautiful Caira comes in place, Caira has a launcher that shoots both healing grenades (for support) and napalm grenades (for combat). Explosions yeahh! She is also able to generate an Acceleration Field which super-charges the adrenal glands of nearby hunters, allowing for greatly increased movement speed.

So what do these Hunters Hunt? Well Monsters big scary monsters who would like nothing more than to eat you alive. For now you can choose between 3 monsters Goliath, Kraken and Wraith and coming soon as an DLC character the Behemoth. As a monster you have to feed on wildlife to survive and grow the evolve meter. The bigger the monster you eat, the more filled the evolve meter gets. Once the meter is filled up, you can evolve. In order to do so, you first have to find a safe place where you can evolve inside a cocoon. Here you level up, become more powerful and select a new ability.

Goliath is the first unlocked monster players will have access to. Goliath has the ability to pack on the most armor and is normally used in combat as something of a close combat bruiser absorbing tons of damage with his armor while dishing out damage at close range with melee attacks and special abilities.
The Goliath has a melee attack and four special abilities. The four special abilities consist of fire breath, rock throw, charge attack and the leap attack.

Kraken is the first monster that can be unlocked by gaining 1 star in all four of Goliath’s abilities. Kraken has a melee attack while on the ground and while in midair that melee attack becomes a ranged attack that he can be used at mid to long range. And as with all monsters he has four special attacks, those are Lightning Strike, Banshee Mines, Aftershock, and Vortex Wave

The Wraith plays very differently than the other Monsters, preferring stealth and subterfuge to full on attacks. It also has the ability to teleport, often with a hunter in tow, separating them from their pack and easily taking out the lone players.

Evolve offers 4 game modes which are Hunt, Nest, Rescue and Defend. Off these game modes Hunt was my main go to mode and offered the most for me, the other game modes are fun to play as well but didn’t deliver as much fun as Hunt.

Hunt: The Hunters must kill the Monster before it can destroy the power relay located in the map. The Monster must reach stage 3 in order to destroy the relay, though it can also opt to kill all of the Hunters.

Nest: Six Monster eggs are located in random locations on the map. The Monster must protect them from the Hunters for 18 minutes, and can hatch one of the eggs to spawn a minion to help it. The Hunters must destroy all six eggs, as well as any minions, within the time limit to win.

Rescue: Injured colonists trying to escape the Monsters are placed randomly on the map. Hunters need to locate, revive and protect them as they make their escape. The monster needs to kill as many of these colonists as possible and keep them from getting away. Whoever saves—or kills—five colonists first wins.

Defend: A starship’s refueling station comes under the assault of a player-controlled fully evolved monster and smaller Goliath minions. The hunters must stop the monster from causing a catastrophic accident by protecting the power generators until the ship is fully powered, while the monster must destroy two generators to reach the ship’s power source.

Evolve provides two different structures to these game modes: Quick Play, which enables single matches; and Evacuation, which serves as a five-match multiplayer story mode. In Evacuation, each subsequent match gives the winning side an advantage in the next map (such as a destroyed power plant releasing toxic gas the monster is immune to or a saved one powering autonomous turrets to assist the hunters), ending with a Defend match.

To become good in Evolve you’ll need to adept and learn from previous Monster encounters, Adept your choice of Hunter when teammates pick the one you like. The best way to survive and hunt the Monster down is to work as a team. Once this is achieved tracking and killing the Monster becomes a second nature and you’ll want to spend every minute on the Planet Shear. If you don’t adept the experience you would have playing Evolve gets lost and forgotten. I like to play as a Hunter and team-up with friends or other online players, to outsmart and out gun the Monster, but don’t forget you can play as the monster itself when you’re alone and wreak havoc and mayhem upon the Hunters.
Evolve looks and sounds great with trembling footsteps of the Goliath and sky lit flashes of the Kraken’s Lightning strike. It all makes for a great experience in an even greater game.

The progress you make as a player in Evolve is best described as an Cladogenesis, Cladogenesis is an evolutionary splitting event in a species (the species being gamers) in which each branch (players who like shooters) and its smaller branches (Evolve players) forms a “clade”, an evolutionary mechanism and a process of adaptive evolution that leads to the development of a greater variety of sister species. This event usually occurs when a few organisms end up in new, often distant areas (Planet Shear) or when environmental changes cause several extinctions, opening up ecological niches for the survivors. So you could best describe your vacation to the planet Shear as the next step in evolution.
