Just before the 4th of July weekend and Anime Expo, Comcept and Keiji Inafune known for the development of one of my “must play games” of this year, Mighty No.9, are teaming up with animation studio Studio 4°C on a project titled “RED ASH: The Indelible Legend”. Now Their kickstart projects are live.

You read that right not one, but two kickstart projects are live now, one for the Studio 4℃ Anime RED ASH- Magicicada, and one for the Comcept RED ASH – The Indelible Legend game.

RED ASH is an opportunity to not only fulfill Keiji Inafune’s desire to create a game that pays homage to Japanese animation, but also his vision of “immersing players in a freely explorable anime world.” The RED ASH team is spearheaded by Art Director Kazushi Ito and Director Masahiro Yasuma, key members of the original team that pioneered open world game design with Mega Man Legends. With the RED ASH project, they aim to build an action adventure experience with a new level of freedom, complete with the polish expected from such veteran creators.

RED ASH is going to be a collaboration between the game legend keiji Inafune and Studio 4℃. Both teams will shape their own independent works with full creative freedom. These projects are based in separate, yet parallel worlds, giving creators on both sides full freedom to create whatever story or world they want, however their own unique content is based on the same property and characters. This means that if the projects are funded we will get to see a RED ASH game and a RED ASH Anime, how sweet is that.

RED ASH – The Indelible Legend

RED ASH is going to be a 3D action adventure game with third person shooter elements. One of the main goals behind the project is to inject more modern design elements into the classic action adventure RPG formula. Comcept wants to include a myriad of elements to set this game apart from your typical RPG–specifically, bargaining between partners, interaction with NPCs, an almost mischievous sense of freedom, and dungeons built with elements of horror.
Of course, a key part of the game will be delving into dungeons to earn money in order to have Call develop parts and upgrade Beck’s abilities (in true action RPG fashion).

Say hello to the main characters:

Beck: Male, 16 years old
A young boy who teams up with his partner Tyger, aiming to hit it big as Delvers. He is very dexterous and excels in using his fleet-footedness in battle, and adept at infiltration into the most heavily guarded areas.

His left arm can be interchanged with different types of tools and weapons, allowing him to adapt to any situation or terrain.

Tyger: Male, 30 somethin’ years old
Beck’s trustworthy partner. Although he has a rough way of talking, he also has a wise and level-headed demeanor that belies his tough appearance. He is an adept sharpshooter with incredible accuracy and precision, as well as a talented driver capable of operating a wide variety of vehicles and machinery.

He runs the T&B Company along with Beck.

Call: Female, 17 years old
A young girl who runs a rinky-dink shop called Bones Agency inside Great Slope.
She’s run the place on her own since her parents disappeared on her at the age of 10. She’s poured all of her time and energy into protecting and improving the shop they left behind, making sure everything is in order just in case they ever come home… Also, she loves money. Like REALLY loves money.
This mechanic specializes in buying lost technology excavated by Delvers and breaking it down into scrap for her own custom weapon designs.
Call seems to have a very bright personality, but she is extremely strict when it comes to matters of money. She’s a master bargainer, and never lets a single cent to go to waste.

Utilizing her technological know-how and information network, she has sent Beck and Tyger on a variety of strange missions over the years.

Gofer: Gender/age unknown
An autonomous A.I.-powered robot created by Call, and official employee of the Bones Agency. Seems like it receives a salary, but no one knows the details.
Its face is actually a digital monitor capable of displaying a wide range of expressions or different types of information.

RED ASH – Magicicada

“Red Ash THE ANIMATION” is envisioned as a fast-paced, entertaining film in which unique characters explore various stages.
Studio 4℃ calls it a “treasure-hunting animation.” Progressive stages of the adventure will be created by STUDIO4℃ creators, artists whom they wish to collaborate with, and young up-and-coming talents. The idea is to incorporate different worldviews by bringing together creators of diverse talents to develop each new stage of the adventure. The ultimate vision is to produce a movie involving dozens of talented creators! It is an innovative entertainment concept brought to you by STUDIO4℃, the creative studio of the groundbreaking “Genius Party” anthology!

Successfully funded, the Studio 4℃ Anime RED ASH- Magicicada has an goal of 150,000 which already has 56,610 funded, the Comcept RED ASH – The Indelible Legend game has an goal of 800,000 which already funded 244,403. By the looks of it they’re going to happen, and that’s good news.

I can’t wait to see wath both Comcept and Studio 4℃ will come up with once the project is funded, I certainly hope that they will and can continue with more of these great projects. One of these great projects is Mighty No.9, as you may have noticed both main characters share the same name; Beck!

Sharp-eyed readers may notice that this project has inherited some of the DNA from our Mighty No. 9 project–specifically, the shared character names Beck and Call. We feel that this is an important part of the project: we’re taking this opportunity to create an altogether different type of game together with the support of fans and backers. We want to continue embracing this new style of game design and production, challenges and risks included. With RED ASH, we hope to channel your passion for gaming into our creative process, and fulfill both our own dreams and the dreams of our fans around the world!

I hope that these projects have more in common than just the character names, Mighty No.9 will be released in September and is one of my favorites for this year, I just hope that RED ASH is going to become my favorite once it launches
