The one and true assassin makes a stylish return this year. After Absolution Hitman is back, and how. Bigger maps, more assassination options, weapond and disguises. Bigger is better is the saying right?
I have always been a big fan of the Hitman franchise and went totally nuts when I heard that after (at that time) 6 years there finally would be a new game, Hitman Absolution. i’ve played and played to get the silent Assassin ranking at every mission, that is of course the biggest reward you can get in a stealth game like this. Long story short, i’ve had a great time with the game and now i’m even more exited for the new game, simply called Hitman.
The first images that were released looked good, the trailers and gameplay demo’s even better. But then a little birdy told that this wil be an episodic game, the prologue which contains the tutorial and a mission in Paris, releases March 11th here in Europe, the next episode, takes place in Italy, is released somewhere in April. There will be a total of six episodes spread throughout 2016. Why not release the whole game at once? You wonder, this way there is more time to ensure each levels absolute quality or as quoted:
“We decided to take the full leap and publish Hitman as a truly episodic game experience,” said Hannes Seifert, head of studio at Io Interactive, in a release. “Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a Hitman game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future — this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games.”
We put the game to the test ourselves after getting our hands onthe beta, and it felt good. The controlls feel good, the vibe was good and the story aswel. The beta is a prequal to the previous game, the rest of the story will take place after. After the first cinematic the first mission is started, this serves as an tutorial for the controls and for the new players to get a feel what all the numerous possibilities are available to aproach the target and then take care of them. This is quickly done. After another cinematic we get to replay the same mission but now with more different oppurtunities and ways to kil the target.
Challenges are back, these will let the player try to take on several different aprouches towarts the target and its assassination. From poisoning, shooting or even an accident, same with all the different disguises that are obtainable throughout the level. But every disguise has its advantages and disadvantages, for example I took up the mechanic disguise and strolled through the level, most people didn’t evennotice me exept for the other mechanics. They know eachother and thus will find it strange if all of a sudden a new face walks around. This way you have to pay close attention to your surroundings and the people in it.
Then there are the numerous “weapons” you may use, from 47’s trustworthydouble silverballers and fiber wire to rat poison, wrench or even an art buste. Never a dull moment! The third and last mission is a whole new level and setting, we get our location and target and the rest is up to us. After exploring the map and the options available I started to put things in motion, not wanting to spoil to much to you guys I will keep the details. But let me say the target, whell he made an shooting exit, literally.
The map is quite small compared to what we’ve seen in the gameplay videos but for an introduction and tutorial to the game big enough! After playing the level several times and trying other options i must say the whole game feels good. does the episodic aproach on the game bother me? No, this way I have something to look out to each month, and it will be worth the wait. Are new people encouraged to try this game even if they never have played any Hitman before? Yes, 47 is well acquinted, the tutorial is verry clear and fun.
Hitman will release on March 11, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
