According to insiders the PS4.5/PS4K will be named “NEO” which is the working title for the upgraded console. And if the rumours are true we have some specs as well.

According to the sources of GiantBomb the new and improved version of the PS4 will feature higher clock-speeds, an upgraded GPU and more bandwidth for it’s GDDR5 memory. Include the possibility for 4K resolution output and it sounds like a very promising future for Sony’s console.

Sources tell us that starting this oktober PS4 games will feature a ‘Base Mode’ as well as a ‘NEO Mode’. Games which were released previously, will be able to use the options of the NEO by downloading a patch. GiantBomb was kind enough to provide us with the spec list:

PS4 CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores @ 1.6 GHz
NEO CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores @ 2.1 GHz
PS4 GPU – AMD GCN, 18 CUs @ 800 MHz
NEO GPU – Verbeterde AMD GCN, 36 CUs @ 911 MHz
PS4 geheugen – 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s
NEO geheugen – 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

Sony has no intention to divide it’s user base with the arrival of the NEO, which means the menu and the PlayStation Store will have the same interface. Neither will there be NEO exclusive titles nor exclusieve content.

Sony hasn’t commented on the rumours yet.
