Gamer dad who loves the classics, indies, racers and the occasional shooter. Have been in the industry for almost two decades now and am as enthusiastic as ever! #4theplayers
That’s right; I am not starting with the PSX 2016 block busters, but with the games PlayStation began with a long time ago in the year 1995. We are going to relive joyful and exciting adventures with remastered versions of Crash Bandicoot, WipEout and PaRappa the Rapper in 2017. I am glad my two hands were holding my head, otherwise it would have exploded with joy seeing some of my favourite franchises in glorious 4K resolution again. It is going to be a great summer for gaming but not so great for my tan.
Crash Bandicoot has been synonymous to the PlayStation brand for decades. Fans of the series have been asking for a new Crash game for ages and no, we don’t mean his appearance in the latest version of Skylanders. The trademark belongs to Activision now so Sony has little influence over our beloved character.
After all of our pleas Vicarious Visions have assembled a team which has been working with a lot op passion to bring us the version we want. The N’ Sane Trilogy consist of the first three Crash titles but are no visual update. The team has built these versions from the ground up. They had to since the original didn’t have widescreen yet, so they added a lot of extra surroundings which was no easy task.
Because this is a game #4theplayers, there is everything you love about Crash as well as more and better bonus rounds. Expect to see much more of Crash in 2017!
WipEout Omega Collection
WipEout is definitely in my top three games of all time, with it’s highlight WipEout HD Fury on the PS3.
The fans of the game created by Studio Liverpool will be able to race 64 ships on 26 tracks in 9 different modes! And all of this in glorious 4K, HDR and 60fps *wow* which just blows everybody’s mind when people see it! Only 6 months to save for a 4K HDR TV…
All the tracks and ships from WipEout HD, HD Fury and 2048 will be available and you can play them in one of nine modes. There will be Zone, Tournament, Speed Lap, Time Trial, Single Race, Zone Battler, Eliminator, Detonator and Career Mode to play in. So get ready to kiss your wife/ girlfriend goodbye for a while and just shred some records (especially Zico’s time for that lovely trophy)!!!
PaRappa the Rapper
PaRappa the Rapper still is one of the finest rhythm/ music games to date. The cool rapping dog trains his flow under rap masters like Chop Chop Master Onion, Instructor Mooselini, and Cheap Cheap The Cooking Chicken, all in an effort to win the heart of Sunny Funny. The gameplay requires players to synchronise elaborate rhythms to keep PaRappa’s flow going with such classic lines as “Kick, punch, chop, I got the funky flow!”
The ad released alongside the announcement, shows how the love for PaRappa can jump generations, and how PS1 users from 20 years ago can now share this experience alongside their kids. #parentingdoneright
The remaster includes three games and has been remastered visually in 4k, which seems a little excessive for a game featuring 2D papercraft characters in a flat world. But maybe you don’t see that as overkill? We can all agree that it is very pretty.
Great bonus news: there’s a demo available in the PS Store right now.
Besides all the great nostalgic gaming remasters, there will be even more awesome remastering to be done in 2017. At the end of PaRapa’s trailer, PlayStation announced there will be Loco Roco and Patapon remasters for everybody! So get your Spotify LocoRoco album ready and sing those songs! PSX 2016 was definitely #4theplayers
