Wait, what?

This is the context of the latest role-playing game developed by WB Games Montreal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. With Bruce Wayne gone, Gotham’s villains resurface to continue their wicked ways, terrorizing the city. Stepping up are four different heroes who are Batman’s prodigies, each with different backstories and abilities. Let’s dive in to learn more about the game and the heroes.

Who Are the Heroes in Gotham Knights?

In the wake of Batman’s death, Gotham City has four new heroes: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood. Word of caution: Gotham Knights would assume that you already know the characters’ backstories, dropping bits of hints here and there. But fear not, we’re here to introduce them to you:

Batgirl

Batgirl’s real name is Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham City Police Department’s Police Commissioner, Jim Gordon, who laid down his life to protect Gotham’s safety. This and Batman’s crime-fighting ways greatly inspired her to take the role of Batgirl. She is highly skilled in different forms of martial arts such as kickboxing and jiujitsu. For a long time, Barbara was in a wheelchair, recovering from a fight with Joker. But even that did not stop her from helping Gotham: she used her computer skills to work behind the scenes to help bust crimes. Eventually, her injuries fully recovered and she was able to don her suit again and assume being Batgirl once more.

Robin

Tim Drake is this Gotham Knight’s Robin. He was mentored by Batman himself and he holds Bruce Wayne in the highest regard. He was skilled with collapsible quarterstaff and demonstrates his capacity as an excellent fighter, but with a tendency to run his mouth that, more often than not, gets him into trouble.

Nightwing

Behind Nightwing’s mask is Richard “Dick” Grayson, the first ever Robin and Batman’s first protégé. He came from a circus, and so his fighting style includes some acrobatic moves. His weapon of choice is the dual escrima sticks, and everyone beware whenever he wields them.

Red Hood

Identity of Red Hood

Another former Robin is Jason Todd who assumes the identity of Red Hood in Gotham Knights. Out of the four, he comes off as an anti-hero, seeing as he is given to fits of anger and that for quite some time, he himself was on the dark side. Through Batman’s guidance, he pulled through and now dedicates to eradicating crimes in Gotham City… by breaking a bone or two. Jason Todd did die one time, in the hands of Joker. But he was resurrected by one of Batman’s foes as well. For quite some time, he lost his way until Batman set him right. Red Hood is a formidable opponent, being an expert combatant in many different combat styles and weapons.

How is Gotham Knights Played?

Gotham Knights is basically a role-playing game where you can choose to play the game alone or with a friend through the two-player mode. One of the four heroes is chosen as the main player. During evenings is the time to roam around the city for crime busting, looking for clues, and taking down criminals. When the sun is up, the heroes come back to the Belfry to recharge and recuperate, meaning, time to upgrade their tools, swap costumes, change into a different character, and even speak with other members of the team! As you progress in the game, there are certain levels where you meet mobs, or zombie-like creatures called Talons, so make sure you are ready to take them on. Certain levels give you the chance to increase your abilities points, so make sure to maximize them well.
